The pictures on the page below relate to skin infections commonly found on the scalp of female children. The scalp is the skin on top of the head, and it is a prominent area for the highly contagious disease in children called lice (pediculosis capitis). The scalp can also be subject to hair loss, dandruff, and inflammation of the hair follicles (folliculitis). Female children may be more prone to the aforementioned diseases since their hair is often pulled tight into elastic bands, causing tension on the scalp.
