Adult, Male, Lips (Edit search)

In the adult, there are several conditions that can affect the lips. The lips are a highly visible part of the face and changes here can be embarrassing to those they affect and difficult to hide. Cold sores (also called orofacial herpes) are a recurrent viral infection that cause painful and unsightly lesions on the lips and surrounding face. Chilitis is an inflammation of the lips and it has a variety of causes. Chapped lips are a type of chilitis and can be caused by dry, cold weather or exposure to certain medications. Angular chilitis affects the corners of the mouth and usually involves a fungal or bacterial infection. Actinic chilitis is due to long-term sun exposure. Sun exposure can also lead to skin cancer (melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma). Click the pictures below for more information.
