There are various portions of the eye that can be affected by injury and/or disease, including the skin surrounding the eye, the inner eye (pupil and sclera), as well as the conjunctival sack that holds the eye. Some conditions involving the skin surrounding the eye include different types of dermatides, including eczema and contact irritant dermatitis, swelling and skin inflammation (cellulitis), styes (hordeolum/chalazion), poison ivy, and bug bites. Conditions involving the inner eye and conjunctival sack include scratches to the eye (corneal abrasions), ulcerations on the eye, redness and irritation (conjunctivitis), swelling, and trauma/bleeding.
